The Archive Project

The archive project deals with a long term formal research of the consequences of war, and focuses on aspects of loss, memory and commemoration, which are a significant part of life in an area of constant conflict such as the middle east where my homeland is.

My interest in images that relates to destruction and collapse, due to a personal loss experience, began in my early days of art studies, 23 years ago. Over time I have built myself an enormous archive of photos from historical and present wars which I refer to in my work – both in drawings and the ceramic medium; Diving into those difficult images of conflict and tring to distill out of it some lines of order and beauty.

The work on this project involves an extensive technological exploration of the ceramic possibilities in terms of aggregation, working techniques, color, glazing and firing, as well as research of the history of wars.

In the process of work there is always a dynamic between documentation and creation, past and future, destruction and healing; an attempt to create an object of the present that will promise a different future for tomorrow.
